APP REVIEW: aTrackDog

New postby chrisrj28 on Fri Jan 02, 2009 5:43 pm

Name of Application: aTrackDog

Where to get it: (not every app is available in Market) Can be found in the Market

Memory Required: 75KB

Why you chose this app/What you wanted it to do: I needed a way to know when my installed apps are updated.

What it did: aTrackDog is by far one of the most useful apps on the market b/c it will let you know when there is a new version of any app you have installed. When you open it it reads all your apps and then you run the version tracker it will search the App Market as well as the Internet for a newer version of your apps. I have 28 apps and when I ran this it said there were new versions of 18 of my apps. New versions often bring bug fixes and new features so this is extremely useful. The app doesnt check or share personal info. It only reads the version of your apps and uses that to search for newer.

What would you add to it: I would like to see a notification in the Top Bar when a new app is available as well as an option to have it automatically check at set intervals (once a day, every 15 min etc.) I went to the Dev site and features like that are in the works. Another change would be a new icon...lol The one they have looks like a pic of a dog that my daughter drew...

Any Bugs, Force Closes, Battery Differences: The only negative I have seen is that when searching for new apps it will occasionally tell you a newer version is available but you will check the market and youor app is already updated (Shop Savvy is a big example) I read the Dev site and if there is an unreleased beta version with a higher version number it will read that. Some apps give you option to install from the Dev site. This can be turned off though.

What do you rate it: 9/10 Great App for keeping your apps current. Full 10 when notification an autochecking options are made available.
