Got it all working. Other than the format problem everything worked as documented.
I would suggest others format via usb instead of removing the card and formatting it externally.
Thanks for your help. I got the tether going which is whaat started me down this path.
Have not explored themes or other options yet. With cupcake coming out soon I hope a new firmware comes out soon after.

Good to hear that! as for themes, You might need Lite version for that just FYI in case you decide to go for themes later.

No problem. The app worked great. If there was a check in the app that would format the sd for you it would have saved me some trouble.

Yeah the author thought about that but he couldn't figure out how to make that happen. I believe next thing on his agenda is automating the telnet input step so that there really is nothing you have to do but run the app.

Please forgive my n00bieness, but why can't you root RC33 directly?

I'm new to Android, but I can generally find my way around Java, C#, and C++. Is it possible to simply install a mod to RC33 via the SDK, or has Google figured out a way to prevent that?

Google plugged the hole. That is why you need to start from rc29. I just hope that I will be able to use cupcake due out this month.. from what I understand there should not be any problems, but I can't help but worry.

Honestly i dont see why we wont see a JFCupcake update. Google may know about the root loophole but they had an opportunity to really put a stop to it with RC33. Unless they find a way to block all the dreamimg files everywhere I think we will continue to be able to use a rooted version of whatever update they produce.

I mean look at XDA, they already have a cupcake/magic rom in use right now. True it has bugs but a lot of that stems from porting from a device with no keyboard to a device with keyboard. I was worried about rooting back before RC33 was released and then as soon as JF produced I made the plunge and I havent looked back
